What is Codinex Syrup?

Codinex Syrup contains codeine and is used to treat a dry or painful cough. Adolescents older than 12 years of age are not recommended in adolescents with compromised respiratory function for the treatment of cough.

What Codinex Syrup contain? The active ingredient is codeine phosphate. Each 5 ml of Codinex Syrup contains a 15 mg dose of codeine phosphate (equivalent to 11.8 mg of codeine).

The other ingredients are:

• sodium benzoate (E211),
• citric acid monohydrate,
• saccharin sodium (E954),
• sunset yellow (E110),
• Sorbitol,
• sodium carmellose,
• propylene glycol,
• orange flavour and purified water.

What Codinex looks like and the contents of the pack? Codinex is a clear, dark yellow and orange flavoured oral solution available in 100 ml, 150 ml, 200 ml or 500 ml amber glass bottles with child-resistant closures or 1 litre or 2 litre plastic bottles with tamper evident screw caps. Not all pack sizes may be marketed.

How to take Codinex Syrup

Codinex is normally used for short-term relief of symptoms, take this medicine for as long as your doctor tells you to. Adults: one to one and a half 5 ml spoonfuls (5 ml to 7.5 ml), three to four times a day. Elderly / debilitated patients: the dose should be reduced. Your doctor will advise you.

Adolescents (12 to 18 years): one to one and a half 5 ml spoonfuls (5 ml to 7.5 ml), three to four times a day. Children (under 12 years): not for use in children under the age of 12 years.

• Allergic reactions: trouble breathing, hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Dangerously slow breathing: trouble breathing; bluish-colored lips, fingers, or toes
• Accidentally taking too much (overdose): not responding to sound or touch, slowed breathing, extreme sleepiness, slow heartbeat, cold or clammy skin
