Dosage Orally.
The intensity of pain and the patient’s individual sensitivity to treatment determine the dosage. Adults and youths from 12 years of age can take the medication. Doctors usually start opioid-naïve patients on a dose of 10 mg every 12 hours. Some patients may benefit from starting with a 5 mg dose to decrease side effects. Patients who are already taking opioids may start with higher doses. It is not advisable to use the preparation for quick pain relief or for acute pain treatment.
You should take a single dose of the fast-relieving medicine equivalent to 1/6 of the daily dose of Oxydolor 80 mg prolonged-release tablets. If you exceed two doses of the quick relief medicine in a day, you should increase your dose of Oxydolor 80mg. You should not increase the dose more often than every 1-2 days until you have established a consistent twice daily dose.
Increase the dose from 10 mg to 20 mg every 12 hours by approximately 1/3 of the daily dose. Most patients find that taking the same dose in the morning and evening (every 12 hours) works well. Some patients may prefer spreading out their doses unevenly throughout the day. Give the lowest effective dose. Usually, 40 mg daily is enough for treating non-cancer pain, but sometimes a higher dose is needed.
Patients with cancer pain may require a dosage of 80 mg to 120 mg, and doctors may increase it to 400 mg in individual cases. The medicine should not be used longer than necessary.
Doctors recommend starting with 50% of the adult dose (e.g. a total daily dose of 10 mg in opioid-naïve patients).
Patients should make dose adjustments according to their individual clinical condition. You can take the tablets with or without meals and with sufficient fluid. Make sure to swallow them whole, do not crush, chew, divide, or crush them.
